On the 10th day of our 2023 Homeland Experience, Nineveh Rising visited Bahra School in Simile. Supported generously by Assyrian Aid Society, this educational institution is notable for teaching its entire curriculum in Surath, our ancestral language, and for its resilience in the face of governmental challenges.
Bahra School has faced significant adversity, having been forced to relocate five times by governmental decisions. Each move has led to a decline in annual enrollment, dropping from an initial 400 students to just 81 today. Despite these challenges, the school has maintained a remarkable academic standard, with students achieving high GPAs and continuing to excel at the university level.
During our visit, Nineveh Rising recognized the urgent needs of Bahra School and took decisive action to support its mission. It was brought to our attention that the principal needed a www computer for managing the school. They provided her with a high-performance computer, dual monitors, a keyboard, mouse, headset, switchboard, HDMI cable and a 32 GB USB drive to help her run the school more effectively.Â
In addition to upgrading administrative resources, Nineveh Rising also dedicated efforts to directly benefit the students of Bahra School. We distributed brand-new backpacks filled with essential school supplies and pencil cases to all 81 students. This initiative aimed to alleviate some of the financial burdens faced by students and their families, fostering a supportive learning environment.
The visit to Bahra School underscores Nineveh Rising's ongoing dedication to investing in education as a catalyst for community resilience and empowerment. By supporting institutions like Bahra School, Nineveh Rising not only preserves our cultural heritage but also cultivates future leaders who will contribute positively to our community and beyond.
